Let’s Race!

This week’s process update includes doing some reference sketches of animals first. With the last drawing, I started doing small quick composition thumbnails and I continued doing that once I was done with reference sketches. I do these things in pencil in my sketchbook. At this point, I transfer the sketches to my iPad and do a rough composition with color blocking. Then I add details and refine the main composition before refining the background and adjusting color to add depth and movement.

At this point, I export the image from Procreate, publish it and then usually realize that I’ve forgotten something. In this case, it was the pectoral fin for the seadragon in the foreground.
