Dragon meets Dragonfly

I struggled a lot with this image. I decided to base this particular dragon on the spotted salamanders that are native to this part of southern Michigan. And to represent native lake vegetation. And to work within the restricted color palette I’ve been using. And… in the end, it was probably too much. The story between the dragon and the dragonfly is untold and the style is stuck in a weird limbo between realism and cartoony. That said, I really like the way the dragon herself turned out. We’ll be seeing more of her again.

Sometimes stuff doesn’t work out the way I want it to and that’s ok.
