January’s Comics Roundup

  1. The third and last issue of Giant Robot Hellboy came out this week. Giants, robots, Hellboy, Duncan Fegredo’s art and Mike Mignola’s writing – what’s not to love? Tbh, I wish this series were longer.
  2. Simon Spurrier and Matias Bergara’s Coda is an acid-trip, candy-colored sci-fi fantasy romp with the bard/thief Hum and his warrior wife Serka. It’s always so weird and so good.
  3. Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers delivers his usual amazing art, amazing writing and uncanny ability to balance playfulness with pathos.
  4. Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo and Space Usagi. I’ve been reading this series for over three decades now and am super stoked to see my kids reading it now.
  5. Rick Remender’s The Sacrificers. I’m late to the party on this one, just starting now with issue #1. The concept and Max Fiumara’s art are hot – let’s see if I’m still in love with the story after a few issues.
