Movies

My favorite movie of all-time ia tie between The Iron Giant and Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. I LOVE animated films, especially when they are not typical 3D.

My favorite movies of 2025 are Dust Bunny, Fackham Hall, Predator: Badlands, Wake Up, Dead Man, A Real Pain, Rental Family, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Mickey 17, Death of a Unicorn, Materialists, Freaky Tales, The Life of Chuck, and Good Fortune.

– Miller & Lord’s Spiderverse movies – can’t wait for the 3rd one!
– Tarsem Singh’s The Fall and The Cell.
– Loads of Coen Brothers films (Burn After Reading, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou?, True Grit, Hail Caesar!)
– Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

– Everything Everywhere All At Once
– Wong Kar Wai’s 2046, In the Mood for Love, Chungking Express
– Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, Ghost Dog,
– Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films
– The Black Stallion – a masterclass on how to tell a story with perfect camera work and minimal dialogue
– Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – if you haven’t seen it, you should. The only thing this movie lacks is a sequel.
– The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy – there’s a moment in Vol 3 that will hit your heart so hard, you will remember what it is like to really love something
– Whip It – a coming of age story plus roller derby and an amazing soundtrack
– The Triplets of Belleville
– Anything by Satoshi Kon (Millenium Actress, Perfect Blue, Paprika and my favorite Tokyo Godfathers)
-Japanese animation: Cowboy Bebop, Tekkonkinkreet, Voices of a Distant Star (and pretty much anything by Makoto Shinkai), Spriggan, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke, Metropolis, Memories …

My musical heart will forever belong to my favorite turntablists (Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, Kid Koala, Dan the Automator, DJ Rap) but I work mostly to film, tv and game soundtracks. Current rotation includes:

– Johannes Bornlof – moody, achingly beautiful instrumental music
– Black Honey –
– The Pillows. Famous for the FLCL soundtracks, which are great. All of their other music is pretty great too.
– The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-4 complete playlist
– Yasunori Mitsuda’s brilliant soundtracks for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears and more.
– Yoko Kanno – composer of Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Vision of Escaflowne, Arjuna and more…
– Whip It soundtrack
– Woodkid
– Scores from Into the Spiderverse, Guardians of the Galaxy and pretty much any Tarantino film
– Keith Mansfield
